I have 12+ years of marketing leadership experience in founder, director, and management roles.
My mission is to help brands build trust by actually helping their customers, in order to form relationships that create longterm value for the customer and the business.
When I am not slaying bass out of my kayak in Idaho, I am finding ways to have a direct impact on revenue. I have led teams that have sourced over $30m in net revenue and I have directly managed over $5m in performance advertising budgets.
I have built marketing teams of all shapes and sizes, including two at Idaho’s top private 15 companies. Over the years I’ve served as an agency co-founder, series B startup marketing leader, employee #1 at an HR SaaS company, an alliance marketing manager at HP, and currently as the Director of a world-class Marketing team at ClickBank.com.
I bleed growth marketing and know how to stitch it all together with a deep knowledge of marketing ops and analytics. I help brands scale customer acquisition at an elite level. I am comfortable bouncing from a meeting about improving brand strategy and creating new categories straight over to one about tightening revOps and creating customer ascension plans to boost LTV while diving deep into data.
I am the proud father of two boys and married to my high school crush. My hobby problem includes bouts with bass fishing, disc golf, writing and playing music, snowboarding, and many others. I am an eternal student of marketing. This is my biggest passion of all.
I started at ClickBank focused on building paid demand generation programs. But over the last two years, this has evolved into a role where I have been able to directly impact everything from brand strategy, to user acquisition and onboarding, to customer ascension, to scaling an education product. I have helped grow the marketing team from 4 to 14 team members. As a core leader and coach on the team I have helped grow and develop the team in the areas of analytics, performance marketing, email marketing, content strategy, lifecycle marketing, and demand.
I established and grew the Sales Alliance Marketing program for HP. I planned and executed co-marketing campaigns with HP Alliance Marketing and Partners (Microsoft, Intel, AMD, NVIDIA, Adobe etc.) to sponsor content within our sales portals (HP Sales Central and Partner First Portal) as well as our channel partner syndication product pages (Walmart, BestBuy, CDW etc.). I connected Alliance Marketing groups in both the PC and Print side of the business with opportunities to engage the HP sales motion at the point of sale. This role requires a unique combination of entrepreneurial, digital marketing, biz dev, and sales skills. Doubled the programs revenue from $500k to $1.1M run rate in the first year. Migrated from static to dynamic ad scripts, improved reporting metrics, and successfully networked and worked across a worldwide $52B company with 50k employees.
With $4.5m in funding, I was the marketing leader for this series B startup. Grew team from 1 to 4. We were reinventing how anglers measure and improve their sport. I created the GTM strategy and directly managed the implementation in order to drive awareness, acquisition, activation, revenue, retention, and referrals. I was a brand shepherd, people developer, and process improver as we courageously fought towards achieving our big hairy goals. 2900% traffic growth. 15X SEO growth. Reached top 50 in Apple Sports App Category. >1,000% user growth. 10X MRR revenue growth. Doubled their first two years of total users in my first 6 months. >1000% app visibility growth. Created and scaled and effective influencer program.
I joined this team as employee #1 and took on the role of Director of Marketing in November of 2017 to help them grow revenue. I planned, organized, and implemented a high velocity of growth experiments in order to identify potential new channels and improve existing core channels. I helped them see an increase in MRR by 15%, free trial volume by 200%, and organic search traffic by 25%. Most importantly, I helped them build new relationships and strengthen existing ones.
One of the nation’s largest privately held Professional Employer Organizations and #11 on the Idaho Private 100. Based in Boise, ID, they allow SMBs to outsource HR administrative tasks like payroll, benefits, work comp, etc. I was hired to fix a critical problem the company had with digital lead generation and increase revenue. I established a full stack digital marketing strategy to generate leads, qualify them, and pass them to sales using organic and paid channels. I reported to the COO and president of the company. I began as the only marketer for the company and grew the department to have three direct reports after proven ROI over the course of three years. I worked closely with the Director of Sales, the sales team, and all other department managers. I grew monthly inbound lead generation by more than 3400%. 300% growth in web traffic. By year three, 50% of all new ARR was attributed to my team. Maintained a 14:1 LTV:CAC ratio. Our programs were so effective that I was invited to present at industry conferences to share our case study and teach other marketing and sales executives how to build their own digital marketing programs. I also completed a total rebrand and web site rebuild during my time here.
I co-founded this digital marketing agency and grew it to almost $1M in annual billings by recruiting, hiring, and managing a talented team of 8. I was the primary interface between our agency and clients. I also carried the primary business development duties while managing projects and doing marketing work. I became a well-rounded digital marketer and learned how to teach and manage clients. I consulted companies big and small including brands like Cabela’s inc., McAlvain Construction, McAlvain Concrete, Syringa Networks, Idaho Potato Commission, Summit Dental, The Village Charter School, and many others. We grew the agency to almost $1M in annual billings. I was able to help organizations of all shapes and sizes better connect with their customers through digital marketing. I learned countless invaluable lessons about entrepreneurship and business fundamentals through trial by fire. This experience shaped me into the passionate and constant learner of digital marketing I continue to be today.

Spud has just been the best partner product (and I) could ask for. He is constantly helpful in sharing real world marketing operations knowledge, thinking about marketing strategy. He’s gone the distance on some critical processes for ClickBank with major impact. Spud isn’t afraid to get in there when it means getting in there – he conveys vision/purpose for work, and does whatever it takes to get to the goal. He makes everyone feel a part of the solution. He’s been an ultra-positive bridge builder, even when it’s well beyond difficult. I would highly recommend Spud as a senior marketing leader for any team.
Spud is a high performer flat out, but that’s just the start. He’s always looking to learn and teach, making everyone around him better.
Spud was the best boss I have ever had. His leadership skills and positive attitude lead me to not only believe in the work we were completing, but also to love my job.
Spud is one of the brightest marketers I have ever worked with. His ability to solve complex problems with reason, logic, and creativity makes him one of a kind. He is highly collaborative and naturally raises everyone around him. He looks at ideas from all angles and has inspired me to elevate my work to levels I didn’t think were possible.
Spencer is a highly motivated marketing professional who has some serious digital marketing chops. He understands the subtle and complex moving parts behind successful brand strategy and positioning. In other words, he knows what he’s doing! And he is a pleasure to work with. I have enjoyed working with Spencer on several marketing and branding projects, and hope to have more opportunities to do so in the future.
Spencer is able to keep up with all the twists and turns of my conversations and bring organization to my thoughts. He is as excited as I am about the possibilities for me and my company and it shows. I recommend highly to anyone who needs some direction and creative thinking.
Besides simply just being a fantastic person, he is also a fantastic marketer. Spencer is data-driven, experienced, and truly knows how to get real results.
Humility, perseverance and the willingness to learn are all characteristics required for every sales or marketing professional, yet rarely seen at the levels Spencer demonstrates. These qualities would be enough to make Spencer an excellent leader, but when added to his unmatched willingness to help those around him, give and receive feedback on tasks and direction, and continuously innovate, he is a cut above the rest. There’s a piece of him in everything he does, which means he is married to the outcome and never kicks the can or passes the responsibility. He has so much to teach, and yet is ever the student.
Learning from Spencer has been one of the largest highlights I’ve had in my working career. For eight years, I’ve been able to experience his creative genius, drive, and passion for the work he dedicates himself to. He is extremely comfortable in creative content strategy conversations while still being very data driven; loves “the data,” this one. Spencer’s marketing mind is unparalleled and he’s freakishly organized. I’ve never met anyone else who is more passionate, driven, and focused on building the brand and helping team they are a part of. He manages teams with an artful finesse and has no problem getting his hands dirty when needed.
I have over a decade of deep and diverse experience leading digital teams. My experience includes building industry leading teams at two of Idaho’s top 10 private companies, building a brand for a Series B startup, and strategic partner marketing at Hewlett Packard.
